Report of Charter Representative Meeting at
ARHA Convention February 13th, 2009

Dear KTRHA Members:

This is a brief overview of the all day Charter Representative during the convention. Should you have any questions regarding this report, please call me at 615 289- 9015 or email me at lallison2006@aol.com.

There were seven points covered during the meeting:

  1. Review of the ARHA Purpose & Mission Statement
  2. Ethics
  3. Misconceptions
  4. Problems of the 2008 show year
  5. Increasing Participation
  6. Versatility Program/Youth High Point Scholarship
  7. By-Laws, Productive Meetings, Roberts Rules Of Order

1.  For brevity, please review the ARHA Purpose & Mission Statement, it is located in the front of your current ARHA Rule Book. Also, I will be covering #7 with the officers of the club because it does not pertain to the general membership.

2. Ethics was covered by Larry Mitchell. This included a brief video by Bronc Willoughby and Russell McCord regarding the ethics of judges while at shows; discussing such issues as appropriate arrival times and the like.  For a complete list of Guidelines for judges refer to your current ARHA Rule Book.

3. Misconceptions:  This was an interesting topic for me…I was enlightened to the fact that some ARHA members feel as though prizes like horse trailers and trucks should be awarded. The ARHA does NOT charge enough to cover the cost of these types of awards.
EXAMPLE:

At every charter show, $3.00 per horse/day/judge is collected for the ARHA.  If you have an average show…let’s say 50 horses and 2 judges…that would be:  $300.00 sent to the ARHA to do the following:

  1. Record Keeping - office labor, office supplies, postage, entering the show into computer, submitting to webmaster, website fees, corrections, tabulating points.
  2. Year End Awards
  3. Lifetime Awards.

The options for achieving a larger awards budget:

  1. Promotion and Growth….the more members, the larger the budget.
  2. Raising ARHA fees.
  3. Charter fees…which might handicap some of the smaller charters.
  4. Member involvement in the form of acquiring sponsors for the ARHA.

4.  Problems of the 2008 Show Year:  It is the exhibitors’ responsibility to be knowledgeable of current ARHA Rules and the Rules of the ARHA Charter show you are attending. Please bring all of your paperwork including: Registration Certificate, Membership Cards, Coggins, etc. And please complete all entry forms legibly. In addition, report to the gate promptly, be considerate of other exhibitors and show management.

5. Increasing Participation: This is your association! Get involved with a charter and make it better! Who knows, The ARHA may just get big enough to give away those horse trailers and trucks!

6a. Versatility Program: It’s not as complicated as it looks. Don’t read into what is written on the ARHA website. If you are still confused…please call one of the KTRHA Officers or the ARHA office. We will be more than happy to help steer you in the right direction. We want you to succeed!

6b. ARHA Youth High Point Scholarship (New for 2009): In addition to the academic scholarship, the ARHA is now pleased to announce the High Point Scholarship. The lucky youth who is High Point for the 2009 show year will receive a Scholarship. If the youth is too young to enter college/technical school that year…the scholarship will be held for them until they have been accepted to a program after graduation.

Bottom Line: Know your ARHA Rule Book!!

Charter Chatter

Dear KTRHA Members,

I received the following from Erica Keeney:

"In 2009 we are really going to use our e-newsletter to keep members better informed with what's going on in ARHA as well as send out e-blasters about the charter shows and showbill...would you help spread the word and encourage all KTRHA members to sign up for the e-newsletter. They can do this from the ARHA website. We must have their permission to send this out to them."

How to do this:

1. Go to www.americanranchhorse.net
2. on main menu - select "E-mail Newsletter"
3. select "Request E-newsletter"
4. Fill out the Form...you are done!!
